It’s Tuesday, I am supposed be in KL on Monday next week for work. I recalled that the Great Eastern Pacesetters 30km will be held the day before my meeting, was giving a serious thought of joining this race. Anyway I went on to contact Pacesetters Athletics Club Malaysia to register for the 20km category, to my surprise the category was fully subscribed. I was invited to fill up the last few available slots in the 30km category.
I have never run that freaking far before, the longest race I have participated was the 11km Larian Maal Hijrah in Kuching three weeks before and my longest run was only 14.4km lastweek, which I had difficulty to keep going. I thought of the scenario of finishing last at 12pm when the other runners are going back home after the run, or worst not being able to even finish the halfway mark. Nevertheless as contingency I can always carry RM50 with me in case I need a taxi ride back if I couldn’t to finish, that’s the worst that can happen, right? So I went on registering myself for the 30km category despite the fact that I have just been running for about 2.5 months, there’s no way that I will get to the finish line.
Bintulu weather was also not helping at all during the week with the constant heavy downpour resulting the worst flash flood in the town areas. Yesterday I managed to sneak a couple of loops in front of my house before the rain forced me to stop – a mere 2.3km. How will I survive the run with this sort of training. I regretted the decision of not buying a treadmill during the recent Takasima roadshow at Parkcity Mall. But I have not blended well with treadmill training, I always felt giddy after stopping.
I was fortunately saved by Shuk Lazim who was offering a 20km bib when I posted my comment at Haza’s Running Mom. I contacted Shuk to collect the bib number and chip for the 20km category. I decided to forgo my own 30km registration and run for Zamzuri Idris (Shuk’s accomplice) who was injured and unable to participate in the run. So come Sunday my name will be Zamzuri Idris.
